Yes. Combining metal stamping and plastic injection molding under one roof is one core advantage of working with LMC. For hand tool programs that require both a stamped metal component and a molded plastic handle or grip, we manage the entire process, eliminating the coordination complexity and quality risk of working with multiple suppliers.
Color consistency across hand tool SKUs is verified using photo spectrometers, which measure color values against PMS standards on every production run. For multi-color overmolded grips, each material layer is verified separately for color and finish before parts are released. This ensures that your product line looks consistent across SKUs whether it’s running in one production batch or spread across multiple runs.
The best materials for overmolded hand tool handles depend on the application, but TPE and TPU are the most widely used for soft-touch grip surfaces. They provide comfort, chemical resistance, and good bond adhesion to rigid substrates. The substrate, typically ABS, polypropylene, or a glass-filled nylon, provides the structural core. Material selection should account for the specific chemicals, solvents, and mechanical stresses the tool will encounter in use, as well as the bond compatibility between the substrate and overmold materials.
We select TPE and TPU for soft-touch grip applications, matching substrate and overmold materials for bond compatibility. For rigid handle cores, we commonly use ABS, polypropylene, or nylon depending on the strength and chemical resistance requirements of the application. Material selection is part of our standard DFM review process.
